Biography

Dr. Gerald W. Peskin, a Pennsylvania native, received his AB and MD degrees from the University of Pennsylvania following which he completed a surgical residency at the same institution. His initial faculty appointment at the University of Pennsylvania was followed by an appointment as Chair, Department of Surgery, Michael Reese Hospital and Medical Center (Chicago) where he simultaneously held the rank of Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine.

Dr. Peskin then joined the University of California School of Medicine, San Diego, as a Professor of Surgery and Director of the Regional Trauma Center. For seven years Dr. Peskin was the Chairman of the Department of Surgery at the Hospital of Saint Raphael (New Haven, CT) and held an appointment as Clinical Professor of Surgery at Yale University. Dr. Peskin joined the University of California, Davis - East Bay Program in 1992 and the UC San Francisco-East Bay reaffiliation in 2001.

He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Societies and many of the major surgical organizations including the Society of University Surgeons and the American Surgical Association. He has received numerous awards for his teaching, research, and clinical abilities. Dr. Peskin has served each institution with distinction. His extensive bibliography reflects the intensity of his involvement in the clinical and research aspects of surgery. His areas of concentration are gastrointestinal and endocrine surgery.
