Two general surgery services provide state-of-the-art surgical care to the patients of the Alameda County Medical Center. The Green Surgery and Yellow Surgery services are each headed by a team of attending general surgeons with a complement of one Chief Resident and several junior residents. Areas of expertise include general, gastrointestinal surgery, surgery of the breast and endocrine organs, oncologic surgery, surgical ultrasound applications and minimally invasive/laparoscopic procedures. In addition, a wide variety of surgical emergencies are evaluated and treated through the busy Alameda County Medical Center Emergency Department. Each service alternates daily between a busy elective operative schedule and coverage of the general surgical outpatient clinic.
